1.Gems and other resource tokens
Many games don’t use money as currency, but other resources, like gems in Splendor and energy in King of Tokyo.
We recently upgraded the Splendor gem chips to small plastic gems. They’re really cheap, but they look and feel a lot better to play. We’ve been using some gold ones to represent Aember in Keyforge, and some blue ones to represent keys.
2.Upgraded tokens
Want to trade something more tangible than cards in Catan? Confused about Agricola’s cube? Then upgrade your resource tokens!
3.Coins
Most games come with cardboard coins. They’re essential board game accessories. They’re cheap to make. But they don’t make a satisfying clinking sound when you pick up a cardboard coin! Metal coins are a great upgrade for games. You can just buy a set of universal metal coins, or buy some designed for specific games and use them in other games.
4. Extra meeples
Love Carcassonne, but your favorite color is purple? Treat yourself to some purple meeples! The meeple set contains 10 meeples in different colors. If you can’t find a color you like, check online, where there are many meeples to choose from.
